Usually, you don't need treatment for hairy leukoplakia. Leukoplakias are commonly homogeneous and most are benign. Nonhomogeneous leukoplakia, or so-called speckled leukoplakia or nodular leukoplakia - a predominantly white or white and red lesion (erythroleukoplakia) with an irregular texture that may be flat, nodular, exophytic, or papillary/verrucous - is more likely to be potentially malignant. It is clinically classified into two forms, homogeneous and nonhomogeneous leukoplakia, with the latter carrying a higher risk of oral cancer compared with the homogeneous form : Homogenous leukoplakia typically presents as a uniformly white, thin plaque with well-defined margins (picture 2A-B).

Following the antifungal treatment, if the lesions regress within the span of 4 weeks, then there is no rationale to whoop such lesions as OLs any longer. Nevertheless, in case of tenacity, the diagnosis of Candida-associated leukoplakia remains legitimate.[7] Bánóczy stated the existence of that Candida albicans Homogeneous leukoplakia extending from the central to the posterior part of the left buccal mucosa.

Leuko- plakia shows characteristic histologic findings such as epithelial hyperplasia, and/or hyperkeratosis, with or without epithelial dysplasia Leukoplakia can result from diaphragm or cervical cap use; from developmental variants, such as benign acanthotic nonglycogenated epithelium; and, less often, from CIN or invasive carcinoma. 7 Leukoplakia is often a benign finding, but histologic sampling must be performed to distinguish between benign hyperkeratosis and neoplasia.
Apart from the conventional surgical excision, various treatment modalities such as CO 2-laser surgery, Diode laser surgery, Cryosurgery, and Photodynamic therapy have been implemented. Usually, leukoplakia patches resolve on their own without treatment. Once they do, it’s important to avoid known triggers, like tobacco, and seek treatment for any underlying conditions that weaken your immune system. If leukoplakia patches require a biopsy, treatment is necessary. Non-homogenous leukoplakia is a lesion of non-uniform appearance. The color may be predominantly white or a.

Brouns et al. (2013) found that 52.7% had homogeneous leukoplakia and 47.27% cases had non-homogeneous leukoplakia. The reasons for the higher incidence of homogenous leukoplakia in the present study are difficult to explain as they are multifactorial. homogeneous leukoplakia.
